That means you taste the land, not a blend. They are perfect for anyone who wants to explore how geography shapes flavour, and the best way to start is to pick a region that matches your taste: fruity and bright (Africa), chocolatey and nutty (South America), or earthy and bold (Asia). There are obviously many more flavour profiles which we will dive into a later article.
"Single origin" means the beans in your bag all come from one specific place. That could be a single farm in Colombia, a washing station in Ethiopia, or a defined region like Huila or Yirgacheffe.
"A single origin coffee is like a postcard from a place. A blend is a carefully composed symphony. Both are beautiful but they serve different purposes."
Blends combine beans from multiple origins to create a consistent flavour profile, batch after batch. Single origins celebrate the unique character of one place.
The flavour is geography, or terroir related.
If you are new to single origin, the region is your best guide.
